Master Plan
|
|
The City of
Houghton
Planning
Commission
is working
on a new
Master Plan
which will
replace the
last Master
Plan done in
1972.
The
Commission
expects to
complete a
draft of the
Plan by June
of 2012.
One of the
first steps
to creating
a Master
Plan is to
create an
Executive
Summary
which
provides the
basis for
planning in
the City of
Houghton as
well as a
summary of
our existing
conditions.

Summary.
-
A very
important
step in
the
planning
process
is
public
input.
The
Planning
Commission
plans to
solicit
public
comments
in two
ways:
-
A survey
that
will be
randomly
distributed
to
residents
throughout
the City
in an
effort
to
receive
comment
from
residents
in every
section
of the
City
including
students.

SURVEY
RESULTS
Houghton
residents
gave their
suggestions
to update
the master
plan at
informal
neighborhood
meetings
held in
March.
Topics of
discussion
included
walking and
biking
routes,
public green
space areas,
and
neighborhood
improvements.
The Planning
Commission
will take
information
gathered
from the
survey and
these
meetings to
create the
first draft
of the
master plan.
There will
then be
another
public
meeting held
to review
the draft
and make
further
comments.
