City of Houghton RV Park

The RV Park has 25 units and is located next to the Kestner Waterfront Park at the western end of the four mile paved, non-motorized, waterfront trail that connects to a packed trail system along an abandoned railroad grade for many more miles. Downtown Houghton is a half mile away along the lit trail. There are a variety of restaurants, gift shops and a hardware store downtown. The highway business district provides a Walmart, Shopko, Econo Foods, and Tractor Supply.

Park amenities include: paved sites, water and sewer connections, 20-30-50 amp electric service, satellite TV with 16 channels, Wi-Fi; with a covered patio, picnic table, park bench, BBQ grill, and fire ring at each site. We do not accept pop-up campers or tents as there are no bathroom/shower facilities in the park.

The Kestner Waterfront Park consists of a sandy bathing beach, pavilion, picnic tables, fishing piers, boat launch, and Chutes and Ladders playground.

2018 Season

The park will be open from May 15, 2018 to October.

The City of Houghton RV Park is a small park and our hosts pride themselves on being able to provide personal service and are able to schedule stays at the RV Park for as many guests each summer as possible. We schedule by telephone only. We do not use a web-based reservation system that many larger parks use. We've found that for such a small park an impersonal electronic system simply cannot shuffle a schedule around to keep a park full, nor can it speak with guests to help modify their travel plans slightly to get them into the park. While some may find this old fashioned way of scheduling to be out of date or annoying, we've thus far found that it works out the best for making sure the park gets filled.

The RV Park is typically scheduled at 99% to 100% occupancy for the prime summer months. This is a credit to the hosts who work hard to make sure that as many people get to enjoy time in Houghton at our RV Park as possible.

Reservations will be taken in order of length-of-stay at the start of the reservation window, though guests may call for a reservation of any length after May 21st. Calls will be taken after 9:00 a.m. eastern standard time for those guests planning to stay:

  • One month or more and the month of May: May 14th - 18th
  • Two weeks or more and the month of May: May 16th - 18th
  • One week or more and the month of May: May 17th - 18th
  • Daily reservations will begin: May 21st

We won't take reservations for stays of less than one week (7 days) until May 21st.

The initial opening of reservations can be a very hectic time. Our hosts may be on the phone when you call and you may need to leave a message. Be assured that your messages are time stamped and every effort is made to call you back to schedule your reservation in the order the call was received. Please leave enough information in your message so that you can be reached in a reasonable period of time./p>
