COVID-19 Information

The City of Houghton has made operational changes to comply with Governor Whitmer’s COVID-19 executive orders.  Most city employees are considered essential employees and continue to work.

The City office is open, with access restrictions, to visitors and we continue to work our regular hours and answer the phone. If you need to meet with someone, please call ahead and make arrangments. As always, payments can be made by mail, by credit card on our website, or left in our drop box next to the front door.

Council and commission meetings are back to Zoom teleconference with the latest executive order. Please look on the main page for a link to the meeting.

Houghton Transit continues to run the demand bus Monday – Friday from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm.  The Downtowner Bus runs the usual route Monday – Friday from 10:00 am until 12 noon.  We have taken measures to keep our bus drivers and passengers safe and we are limiting the number of passengers allowed on the bus to keep passengers as safe as possible.  Buses are also sanitized every evening and cleaned throughout the day.

Trash and Recycling continue to be collected on the usual days and times (weather permitting).

This summer has been great so far, but we’re not out of the woods yet. Please take the appropriate precautions, be smart, and respect others in their personal precautions.

Public restrooms are open. Please continue to take the necessary precautions and familiarize yourself with the signage in place.

There is a lot of good information out there as far as executive orders, best practices, community resources, and what you can do to help. A good place to start is here.
