The City of Houghton has made operational changes to comply with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Epidemic Order Dated November 18, 2020. Information on this order can be accessed at: www.michigan.gov/coronavirus
The biggest change made due to this new order is that Dee Stadium will be closed from November 18th to December 9th.
Most city employees are considered essential employees and continue to work throughout the pandemic.
The City office is closed to visitors. As always, payments can be made by mail, by credit card on our website, or left in one of our drop boxes next to the front door and inside the vestibule.
Council and commission meetings are available to the public by Zoom teleconference. Please look on the main page for a link to the meeting.
Houghton Transit continues to run the demand bus Monday – Friday from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm. The Downtowner Bus runs the usual route Monday – Friday from 10:00 am until 12 noon. We have taken measures to keep our bus drivers and passengers safe and we are limiting the number of passengers allowed on the bus to keep passengers as safe as possible. Buses are also sanitized every evening and cleaned throughout the day.
Trash and Recycling continue to be collected on the usual days and times (weather permitting).
Public restrooms are closed for the season..
Dee Stadium is closed beginning November 18th and will reopen when directed.
There is a lot of good information out there as far as executive orders, best practices, community resources, and what you can do to help. A good place to start is here.
The Nara Park chalet is closed; however, the sledding hill and trails will be open when there is enough snow to make them enjoyable.
