Interested in Running for City Council?

There are three city council seats up for election this November for four-year terms expiring 2028.

Council members are elected at large throughout the city.  The qualifications for the office of city council as stated in the Charter are:  Any qualified voter of the city 18 years of age, or older, and a continuous resident of the City for 12 months immediately preceding the date of election, and not in default thereto shall be eligible to hold the office of Councilperson.

Nominating petition packets are available at the City Clerk’s office and can be obtained Monday-Friday from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm.  Completed petitions for the office of City Council for the City of Houghton will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the City Clerk’s Office, 616 Shelden Avenue, City Center, Houghton, MI.

Names of candidates who qualify for office will appear on the November 5, 2024 General Election ballot.
