At the October 26, 2022 council meeting, the council voted to approve the new contract with Waste Management for garbage and recycling collection and disposal. This contract will take effect June 1, 2023. The city will transfer from the current system of purchasing special garbage bags to a garbage container and recycling container system. The new containers will be supplied by Waste Management.
The city will hold a Public Information Session about the implementation of the new system prior to June of 2023.
The city’s garbage collection ordinance will also need to be updated prior to June of 2023. A public hearing prior to adoption of the new ordinance will be held.
At the October 12, 2022 council meeting, City Manager Eric Waara provided a history of trash and recycling collection in the city, limited options, and the proposed changes.
