Waterfront Recreation

Houghton’s waterfront offers a lakefront recreation area second to none in the state. From the City RV Park to the Nara Nature Area residents and visitors can enjoy several parks, walking/biking trails, scenic views, gardens, public art, and historic sites along a dedicated public waterfront corridor; a portion of which runs right through downtown’s dining, entertainment, and shopping. A sunrise workout, lunchtime walk, or peaceful sunset stroll can all be had on our waterfront.

Seating and picnic areas are located all along the waterfront trail and are a perfect place to enjoy a take-out meal.

Kids of all ages enjoy our “Chutes and Ladders”, the ultimate playground.

East Houghton Waterfront Park is located on the waterfront trail just West of the Super 8 motel. It provides a launch point for kayaks and small sailboats and is home to the Houghton Skatepark.

Restroom facilities are located along the waterfront at Kestner Park, near the lift bridge, and at East Houghton Park.

Pavilions at Kestner Park and East Houghton Waterfront Park are available for reservations from May-September. Your reservation must be made at least the month prior to the date you would like to use the pavilion and does not include amenities beyond the pavilion space. Call 906-482-1700 for more information.
