Notice of Council Vacancy

The Houghton City Council is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the council for the remaining term through November 3, 2026. Section 2.3 of the Houghton City Charter states the qualifications are “any qualified voter of the city 18 years of age, or older, and a continuous resident of the City of Houghton for 12 months and not be in default thereto”. A letter of interest and a completed application (found on the City’s website) should be sent to the City Manager: City of Houghton, PO Box 606, Houghton, MI, 49931, or emailed to eric@cityofhoughton.com with the words “council position” on the subject line. Paper copies can be brought to the City Center. Further information may be obtained from the City Clerk at 482-1700. The deadline for receiving letters of interest and applications is Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. The vacant council position will be voted on at the April 8, 2026 meeting.

Extended time frame for applications from the original date of March 18, 2026. New council meeting date is April 8, 2026 from the original date of March 25, 2026.
